General Rules
- We are guests of each facility we participate. Facility rules must be followed.
- F.I.V.B rules will be followed with the modifications listed below for each facility. F.I.V.B rules can be found at
http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Rules/rules.htm .
- You have paid for at least one gauranteed match every week of a season which consists of three sets (or games) during the regular season, and one week of playoffs where the format will be for a team to win 2 out of 3 sets in a match until a winner is determined. We will allow you to play for as much of the scheduled game time as possible, however at the referee or league director's discretion, we may ask that you start a little late or end a little early.
-Players are responsible for any spectator they bring in. Spectators must follow the facility rules and must also demonstrate sportsmanship. If a spectator chooses not to follow the rules, they will be asked to leave the facility immediately without the ability to re-enter.
- Team captains accept responsibility for their players being aware and understanding the rules of the league they play in. If there are any questions, you may ask the referee or league director to clarify.
-Because someone has to be in charge, the on court referee will make all decisions regarding play and sportsmanship during a match. It is within their authority to eject a player and report it to the league director to determine if any further action is required.
ROSTERS
-Teams are provided to opportunity to list their players at the beginning of the season on the registration form. If additional spots are needed, you can submit them to the league director by the 7th week of play.
-In order to be eligible for playoffs, a player MUST have played with your team at least 2 times during the regular season and may not be on another team's roster within the same league and division.
- NO player may be on multiple rosters within the same league & dvision. If a player eligibility is questioned, they will be asked for photo identification which must be presented to the league director and they must state which team they are rostered with. If it is discovered a player is playing illegally, that team the player is playing for may forfeit all games in which the play in question participated.
- Players MAY substitue for other teams throughout the course of a season.
-Only the team captain may question the eligibility of a player prior to the start of a playoff match. Once the match has ended, no eligibility questions will be allowed.
GAME PLAY
-Games start promptly as scheduled. It is your responsibility to be on time and warmed up. You will be allowed 5 minutes of warmup time on court prior to your match, but included within your scheduled playing time. Referees or league director may choose to allow extra time if necessary. Everyone's time is valuable and we will show courtesy and respect to others by playing on time.
-Scoring will be rally scoring to 21. You will play a minimum of 1 match consisting of 3 sets (or games). Cap for each game is 23.
-If the 3rd set of a match starts with less than 12:00 minutes prior to the start of the next scheduled match, the referee may decided to have the teams play to a winning score of 15. Both team captains will be notified of this decision prior to the start of the 3rd set.
-a Co-ed 6's team must have at least 2 females on the court if 5 or 6 players are playing, and 1 female athlete if 4 or less are playing. For a co-ed 4's league, you must have 1 female athlete on the court. Teams are permitted to play with as little as 1/2 of the league format, (ie, a 6's league may have 3 players to start and a 4;s league may have 2 players).
-Late arriving players will be permitted to enter the game ONLY on their team's next service and they will enter in the serving position.
-Game time is forfeit time. If you cannot field an appropriate team at your scheduled start time, your team will forfeit the match. If you forfeit a match, you are responsible for paying both your team's referee fees as well as the opposing team's referee fees for that night. Your match record will result in scores of 0-25, 0-25, 0-25.
-In accordance with the rules, once a ball is tossed in the air to serve, it must be contacted and sent over the net. You are not allowed to catch it or let it hit the ground for a replay.
-At the end of the match, it is the team captain's job to make sure scores are recorded correctly with the referee. Once the referee has left for the night, no changes will be made to scores and the results will remain.
Standings and Playoffs
-Weekly standings will be posted online and updated every Sunday and Thursday after the league's second week of play.
-Playoff and weekly standings are based on games won vs. games lost percentage. Tiebreakers will be based on head to head competition between the tied teams, secondly by a total of points "for/against" each team, third by a coin flip. All teams make playoffs.
-Playoffs are single elimination format. A team must win 2 out of 3 sets to advance in the tournament.
Protests
-Any protest must be made in writing within 24 hours to the league director. A protest may only be filed by the team captain and must state specifics as to the mature of the protest. All decisions will be made by the league director prior to the start of the following week's match and will be final.
-Roster protests will be handled on court by referees.
Forfeits, Referee fees and Penalties
-Forfeit fees are due the first night of play. Amount will vary by facility. If a team does not forfeit a match over the course of a season, the forfeit fee will be returned to them the week of playoffs.
-Forfeit fees must be paid in cash.
-Forfeits will results in scores of 0-21, 0-21, 0-21. UPon the first forfeit, the team will lose their forfeit fee they deposited at the beginning of the season. The team must replace that forfeit fee prior to the start of their next match. Two or more forfeits in a season may result in suspension from the league for the remainder of the season without refund. Teams owing forfeits fees resulting from 2 or more forfeits will not be permitted to play in any VooDoo Athletics LTD. league until all outstanding balances and fees have been paid and settled.
-Only team captains may speak to referees regarding calls made on the court. Referees do have the right to eject a player if it is deemed necessary for unsportsmanlike conduct after a warning has been given. Team captains will be held accountable for your team's actions.
-SPORTSMANSHIP IS A MUST. If you cannot excerise self control, you do not need to play in the leagues. Unsportsmalike conduct includes acts such as excessive use of profanity, walking off courts during a match, abussive taunting of other teams, verbal abuse of any referee, scorekeeper, facility staff or VooDoo Athletics representative. Any athlete or spectator may receive sanctions that will be strictly enforced leading up to and including ejection for a game, suspensions from play, ejection from the facility, and indefinite suspension from any and all VooDoo Athletics evetns with no refund of money paid for participation. Any physical altercation between participants or spectators will result in immediate removal from the facility and all VooDoo Athletics leagues and events as determined by league director and VooDoo Athletics LTD. ownership.
-any player or spectator that knowlingly and willfully vandalizes, breaks, or causes damage to any of the facilities, balls nets, scoreboards, or other equipment will be held financially accountable.
MR. DIVOT'S RULE MODIFICATIONS
-a player may NOT open hand receive a serve on an overhead pass.
-A player MAY set the ball over the net in 6's leagues as well as 4's leagues. In a 4's league, your shoulders must be perpendicular (square) to where the ball is traveling on the set over the net.
-No open hand dinking is allowed in 4's or 6's play.
-For a 6's league, a team must have at least 4 players on the court and must have at least 4 players from their own team's roster.
FRONT STREET TAVERN RULE MODIFICATIONS
-A player MAY set the ball over the net in 6's leagues as well as 4's leagues. In a 4's league, your shoulders must be perpendicular (square) to where the ball is traveling on the set over the net.
-No Open hand dinking is allowed in 4's play.
- Due to constricted space at the end of the courts, a player may step over the line on serve only within a reasonable amount of space.
